I've had my eye on Dwarven Forge since Penny Arcade posted pictures of an elaborate painted dungeon, complete with accessories and terrain. Dwarven Forge has always had gorgeous sets, hand-made from resin. There are two things that historically kept me from buying in -- the hefty cost, and the heavy weight. They're currently addressing both of these by casting out of a rubberized material called Dwarvenite. Kickstarter is currently funding the new molds and the advancement necessary to do both -- and the rewards are steep.
For the uninitiated, here's a good video that defines what Dwarven Forge is:
The rewards for the Kickstarter made this a no brainer, too. For $500, or the cost of a medium-sized Dwarven Forge collection, you got 300+ pieces immediately. Normally, a set of ~25 pieces runs for more than $125 apiece. The pieces are from the basic dungeon set, which means the more elaborate dioramas will either require purchasing sets from their web site or hoping that the other sets are released in Dwarvenite soon. Still, for those who order the 10 set $500 deal, you receive 540 unpainted pieces. By the end of the Kickstarter, Dwarven Forge is aiming to double the number of pieces you receive, bringing you up to 680, or $.74 apiece. That's an amazing deal in and of itself. My personal hope is that the creator will finish the Cavern set in Dwarvenite in time for them to become an add-on for this particular campaign, meeting the same affordable standard and making this a wonderful time to buy-in to Dwarven Forge. The Kickstarter ends on 4/23.
