Rick Priestly and a few of the other designers of Warhammer, 40,000 are putting together another tabletop science-fiction wargame in the same vein. He's put it up on Kickstarter.
The biggest innovation Priestly is bringing to the table: a real-time database of match results. With a dynamic world, based on these results, and players taking the reins in deciding both history and re-balancing, Priestly may have a hit on his hands. The main challenge, though, is market penetration. Pitting a game against Games Workshop's empire means that Priestly will need to gain the same level of support without stores in malls. The real-time results aren't a new innovation, and aren't enough to carry the game on its own. The miniatures themselves are beautiful:
