A City as an RPG

My usual group requested a campaign setting for D&D Next, and given our original DM's reluctance, I've been throwing together a gameworld. Given my love-hate relationship with Fantasy settings and running D&D in general, I decided to do something rather different with my gameworld -- let the players craft the world itself, while they learn the game's ropes.

There was a time.

I could be commenting on the PS4 reveal.  I could even be commenting on Google Glass being handed out for beta.  Instead, I have a video to share -- Gollum singing music from Le Mis.

A Beautiful Heldrake Conversion

I cannot stand the look of the Helldrake, the new Chaos flyer in Warhammer 40k, so I was absolutely ecstatic when I saw this conversion, courtesy of Dark Future Gaming:

Kickstarter: Rebuilding ENWorld

For those of you who were unaware: ENWorld was hacked, destroyed, etc.  There's a kickstarter which is wonderful, but what's more -- the kickstarter has a 25-pound ($35ish?) tier that nets you quite a haul of PDF game supplements, primarily for Pathfinder and 4e, but also the 4th edition of Tunnels and Trolls.  Check it out!  The kickstarter ends tomorrow.

Kickstarter: Wildman

Chris Taylor, the creator of Total Annihilation and Supreme Commander, has decided to make an Action RPG/RTS hybrid focused on a caveman, and has gambled his company's future due to the difficulty of getting an RTS published these days. His studio is facing bankruptcy, and it's about to go under. He's already laid off half of his design team so that they'd get benefits if the Kickstarter does not go through -- and it's still a big if.

Kickstarter: Alas Vegas

On the first day, James Wallis made Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay, and it was good. For the next six days, he created a smattering of semi-roleplaying games, such as the Adventures of Baron von Munchhausen, and they were pretty good too. On the seventh day, and for fifteen years after that, James Wallis sat on a fat pile of royalty checks, while gleefully watching as DMs followed his instructions and burned everything players hold dear. I'd imagine that was the best part of all for Mr. Wallis. Now, he's decided to throw his hand in the pot again with Alas Vegas -- an RPG set in Vegas using blackjack gameplay and tarot cards.

Bowling

There was some sort of big bowling tournament this weekend. In celebration, I'm taking the weekend off.

Kickstarter: Tabletop Towns

Dioramas are expensive, and take up huge amounts of space. I've been tinkering with card-based terrain with limited success, and they don't particularly have the same effect. Tabletop Towns alleviates a lot of that.
