DeeCee in the 2020s

The capitol of the United States, Washington, D.C., was rocked in the 2020s with massive changes.

* 2020 - Ares launched its AresSpace program.  After years of buildup purchasing aerospace corporations and building up their presence in what was then known as the Dulles Corridor, Ares bought out the land sitting on the far western edge of Fairfax County and announced the launch of "Eisenhower City."  They also bought out the Dulles International Airport.  The Dulles Metrorail expansion in full effect, Ares created a fully functioning city on the outskirts of Washington, D.C.  Given the ramifications of the Shiawise Decision, Ares was required to provide their own police force, which they gladly did with KnightErrant, sustaining a private military force for policing.
* 2022 - The race riots lead to open gang warfare along the Anacostia River.  Police and the National Guard largely are content to contain the riots to the area, setting up barricades and encouraging citizens to abandon their homes.  What is left is termed the Anacostia Barrens, and is largely left to itself.
* 2023 - The 14th Amendment to the US Consitution grants equal rights to all metahumans, despite heavy lobbying by the Humanis Policlub.
2024 - After the crippling military loss to the Native American Nations, and the Treaty of Denver, congress elected to expand the boundaries of the District under what was then known as the "True Capitol" plan.  Passing the US Federal Capitol District Act, the boundaries of Washington, D.C. were expanded to include Fairfax-Falls Church, Arlington, Alexandria, Montgomery, Prince George's, and Howard counties.
* At this time, the city council changed, leaving many natives of the area disgusted.  Abandoning Ward representation, the new D.C. Commission now held 8 Regional Commissioners, as follows:
  1. Fairfax-Falls Church
  2. Arlington
  3. Alexandria
  4. Montgomery
  5. Prince George's
  6. Washington
  7. Howard
  8. An at-large seat elected by the entire region
Each of these Commissioners is largely responsible for dealings and policy within their jurisdiction, but answered to a Chief Commissioner, who is appointed directly by the president.  This expanded District of Columbia was granted more independence than the District previously had, and while it was not allowed full statehood, it was allowed to manage its own finances.
* 2028 - Andrew McAlister is elected the last president of the United States, with Howard Frazier as his running-mate.

And then there was the Crash of '29.
